Social Movements on Social Media
Social Movements on Social Media was a workshop discussion co-sponsored by one of Kent State's leading political organizations, Black United Students, and PRSSA Kent. I worked directly with the Black United Students director of political affairs and grievances and the PRSSA Kent president to secure panelists with expertise in community organizing, public affairs and social media. Over 30 participants joined us live via Periscope, and others attended in person and/or followed the conversation through our Social Movements on Social Media Twitter Chat with the hashtag #SMOSM. In addition to planning, I moderated the discussion. To learn about the topics we covered, review the PRSSA Kent Storify highlighting the thoughts and contributions from our panelists and audience members. The Social Movements on Social Media earned placement in the Chapter News section of the PRSSA National website. The discussion was also covered locally on Kentwired.com.
Communications Connection 2015
Communications Connection is a networking event co-sponsored by Kent State's Franklin Advertising and PRSSA Kent where students can secure an opportunity to network with advertising and public relations professionals, have their résumés reviewed and meet other students pursuing a career in communications. We connected 55 students to 13 professionals. This year, we hosted the event's first video chat with Kent State alumni in Chicago and New York City.
